Contains the following types of materials: photographs, post cards. Covers the following war and/or time period: WWII. Contains photographs of the following military unit: 8th Armored Division. General description of the collection: The Candido Vasquez photograph collection includes photographs collected by an American GI, Private Candido Vasquez, while a member of the 8th Armored Division serving in the ETO during WWII. Many of the photographs and postcards were obviously "liberated" from the area in which Vasquez served or had access to. These photographs are organized by country: Czechoslovakia - a coal mine, slave labores under the Nazis, the Nazi Army, German bombing of Pilsen, site of the once a city of Lidice, and post cards showing ethnic Czech costumes; Germany - destruction of various cities and German countryside scenery, villages, towns, and cities and German Army and individual German soldiers; France - Paris, American GI's, Villages and Germany Army; Russia - Russian ethnic peoples, Russian Army; liberated Russian prisoners, towns and villages and German Army. There is also a folder containing numerous photos of his buddies.
